Skilled Migration Program
Physiotherapy is listed as a skilled occupation on the 2012 skilled occupations list. This gives physiotherapists preferential consideration for migration purposes.
Australia’s general skilled migration program is for people who are not sponsored by an employer and who have skills in a particular occupation (physiotherapy is included on the list). Applicants must be between 18 and 45 years with recent skilled work experience or a recently completed eligible Australian qualification. The skilled Independent (Migrant) Visa subclass 175 is a permanent visa for people with skills in demand. Applicants are not sponsored and must pass a points test.
Skillselect
A web based service run by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. It has two aims:
All skilled workers are hoping to migrate to Australia must submit an EOI, it is not a visa only a request to be considered for a skilled visa
Visa subclass 189: (Independent)
Under the skill select program there is the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189), which is a visa for points tested skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member or nominated by a state. It allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident. Requirements include a nominated occupation on the skilled occupation list, obtained suitable-skills assessment for that occupation, and achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test. Application for this visa is made online via skillselect using the link provided in the letter of invitation following submission of the expression of interest
The cost of this visa is $3520 and processing time is three months.
Visa subclass 190 (Nomination):
Nomination by a state or territory government: State and territory government agencies can view your expression of interest in Skillselect and decide whether to nominate you for a visa. Each state has a list of occupations they are looking for. If you accept a nomination you have to live in the nominating state for a specified minimum time, tell the state your address both before and after you arrive in Australia and be prepared to complete surveys and provide other post-arrival information they ask for. The visa for a nominated candidate is the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), it allows you to live and work permanently in Australia, processing time is three months and costs €3520. Requirements include a nominated occupation on the skilled occupation list, obtained suitable-skills assessment for that occupation, and achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test
The points system for visa are allocated based on age, English language ability, and skilled employment in nominated occupation and qualifications.
