Sports Traumatology
The Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine (CPSEM)
Once you are a registered member of the ISCP you will be able to register for this course.
It is a one Day course which provides Basic Life Support training including Heartsaver AED training, certified by the Irish Heart Foundation/American Heart Association. The Sports Trauma Programme which includes practical training in Airway Management, Spinal Management and Wound/Fracture Management.

Emergency Sports Medical training
It is intended for participants who provide immediate on-field first-aid and emergency medical support. Suitable candidates include (but are not limited to) team doctors, physiotherapists, coaches, first responders, voluntary first-aiders.
Course Topics
This 1-day programme involves multiple learning activities. Instructor-led skills demonstration and practice sessions that includes:
• The chain of survival
• Adult CPR with AED
• Child CPR with AED
• Airway Management
• Oxygen Therapy
• Head and Facial Trauma
• Chest Injury
• Extremity Injury and Splinting
• Open and closed Fracture management
• Medical Emergencies
• Cervical Collar application
• Spinal Immobilisation (supine, prone, sitting, standing, crouched)
• Spinal immobilisation in confined spaces

Skills maintenance and renewal:
It is recommended to renew certification on a 2 yearly basis.
