Lymphoedema
What is lymphoedema?
Lymphoedema is a build up of fluid that causes swelling in an area of the body. Lymph fluid is in all of the tissues in the body and normally drains to the lymphatic system through channels within the tissues of the body called lymph vessels. If these channels are blocked, removed, or damaged lymphatic fluid may build up in an area causing swelling.
Lymphoedema can occur due to cancer, as a side effect of some treatments for cancer or after a surgery. Lymphoedema most commonly affects the arms and legs but can occur in other areas such as the chest, abdomen, genitals, head, neck or armpits
