Migration and Visa Requirements
- You should gain registration with the Physiotherapy board before applying for a visa. You will not be able to work until you have both, see for all info for applying for a visa to work in NZ
- Physiotherapy is on the long term skill shortage list, this means that an overseas qualified physiotherapist will be favourably considered for a work visa.
Skilled Migrant Visa
- These are for people intending to move permanently to NZ. They are awarded on a point system see
Work to Residence Visa
- This is a time-limited visa which enables you to work in NZ on a temporary basis while you decide if you wish to settle there
- After two years you may apply for a Residence from Work visa which gives you permanent residence
Silver Fern Visa
- For young people (aged 20-35) who have recognised qualifications and wish to look for long-term, skilled employment in NZ
- The Silver fern Job Search visa allows people to enter NZ for up to 9 months to search for skilled employment. There is a limit of 300 places per year.
- Job search visa holders who successfully find skilled employment may then apply for a silver fern Practical Experience visa, which allows them to continue working in that employment for up to 2 years.
Working Holiday Scheme
- Visa issued annually (in April) under this scheme to young people (aged 18-30) of certain nationalities for a stay of either one or two years
- Intended primarily for holiday visits that include periods of temporary work or study (you can work for up to 12 months in total, or study for up to 6 months at a time).
- Not suitable for physiotherapists looking for long term opportunities.
